The
Mentor Police Department joins many of its citizens in its concern for
the safety of our residents. Please follow these simple traffic rules
to insure the safety of ALL the residents in the City of Mentor.
Traffic Tips
Please slow down and obey the posted speed limit of 25 mph on ALL residential side streets. Many of these side streets have no sidewalks and the only place for pedestrian traffic is on the side of the road.
Children under the age 4 and under 40 pounds must be in a NHTSA approved child safety seat securely fastened to the car. Never place a child safety seat in front of an airbag! Children under the age of 12 are encouraged to buckle up and ride in the back seat of the any vehicle. All front seat occupants are encouraged to buckle up for safety!
Remind your children to walk FACING traffic and to ride their bikes WITH traffic. Streets are designed for vehicles and should never be used as a playground for your children.
Be considerate of others. Always stop for stop signs and use directional signals when turning. Maintain a safe distance between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.
Remember when school is in session. Buses are picking up and dropping off children. School zones are 20 mph and are strictly enforced.
Most of all, driving is a full time responsibility! Pull over into a parking lot to answer your cell phone. Be considerate of others and drive in a neighborhood as cautiously as you would in your own.
