Bicycle and Traffic Safety
Hey Kids! The Mentor Police Department wants you to have a
safe year, whether you’re in a car, on your bicycle, or just walking
on the sidewalk. When you’re in a car, remember to always sit
in the back seat, and of course, buckle up. Statistics show that over
half of motor vehicle crashes occur within five miles of your home!
Also, when you are riding your bicycle, scooter, or skateboard, always
wear your helmet. Nationwide, 160 children under the age of 16 died
from bicycle-related crashes in 2002. Many severe head injuries could
have been prevented or made less severe had those children been wearing
a bicycle helmet.

Strangers and Internet Safety
The Mentor Police Department is serious about strangers and
internet safety. Children should never talk to strangers, and always
check with a parent before going anywhere. When on the computer, never
give out your name, address, or telephone number. Never download a picture
of yourself to people you don’t personally know. Remember, whatever
you are told online may, or may not be true.
