Exploring a Career with the Mentor Fire Department

If you are 14 to 21 years old, male or female, and thinking about a career in the Fire Department or Emergency Medical Services, this program is for you.

Exploring is a career-oriented program sponsored by various organizations. Explorer Post 911 was chartered by the Mentor Fire Department in 1987 to provide activities for youth interested in Fire Department or Emergency Medical Services careers. Post members elect their own officers and determine their activity schedule for the year. The Fire Department provides adult advisors, facilities and equipment for use by the Post. Post members receive uniforms (either purchased individually or through fund-raising events), participate in hands-on training and may also assist in non-hazardous support functions during emergency operations of the Department. Members pay annual dues (currently $10.40) and monthly dues (currently $5) as voted by the membership. Membership must be accompanied by a liability release signed by a parent or guardian and includes references and background checking.

Although meetings may be held at various locations within the City of Mentor, they are generally held at Fire Station No. 5 at 8467 Civic Center Boulevard (just north of Mentor High School).

Post meetings are held every other Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Additional meetings are held for special events.
