2005 Civil Service Test is completed for Career
Firefighter/Paramedic
Current position requirements for Career Firefighter/Paramedic are
High School graduation or equivalent. Must be a State-Of-Ohio-Certified
Paramedic or currently enrolled in a paramedic class. Must be at least
20 years of age to take test and 21 at time of appointment. Must have
valid driver’s license. Must successfully complete multi-stage
examination process. All qualifications pursuant to State and Local
Law. Not eligible for appointment on or after thirty-sixth (36th) birthday.
Extra Points
Applicants who receive a passing grade on the written examination and
are currently employed as Part-time Mentor Firefighters, and have completed
their probationary period, shall receive an additional one (1) point
of credit for each full year of service* as a Mentor Part-Time Firefighter,
not to exceed five (5) points total. (* This may be interpreted to require
a minimum of 1,000 station hours per year.) Years of service will be
based on the applicant’s anniversary date.
Applicants who receive a passing grade on the written examination who
have successfully completed the Ohio Full-Time Firefighter Recruit Training
Program (Level II), shall receive an additional credit of two (2) points.
Proof must be submitted with application.
WORK DESCRIPTION:
Under supervision, extinguishes fires, provides emergency medical service,
carries out home and building inspections and maintains equipment in
constant readiness to respond to emergency situations. Duty schedule
normally consists of 24-hours shifts. Firefighters perform hazardous
tasks under emergency conditions which may require strenuous exertion
under such handicaps as fire, heat, smoke and cramped surroundings.
PART-TIME FIREFIGHTER
Qualification Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or obtaining citizenship,
at least 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, High
School diploma or GED, EMT-A certification and completion of Ohio Firefighter
Complete Level I. Ability to respond to daytime emergencies helpful.
WORK DESCRIPTION:
This is part-time skilled work combating, extinguishing, and preventing
fires and providing rescue services to protect life and property. Work
also involves routine maintenance of fire department equipment, apparatus,
and quarters and driving equipment when specifically assigned.
Firefighters perform hazardous tasks under emergency conditions which
may require strenuous exertion under such hindrances as fire, heat,
smoke, and cramped surroundings. Although firefighting and rescue work
are the most difficult and responsible areas of activity, a major portion
of time is spent studying methods and techniques of fire prevention
and suppression and basic and advanced lifesaving techniques, studying
and perfecting the operation of fire and rescue equipment and apparatus,
and in performing routine duties in the care and maintenance of fire
department property and equipment.
